Meet WSDI's Leadership
Karin Lijana Matura has been the Executive Director of Wine and Spirits Distributors of Illinois (WSDI) since January 2011. WSDI is a not-for-profit trade association representing the state's leading wine and spirits distributors. In this capacity, Karin manages the day to day operations and as a registered lobbyist represents over sixty members and their industry before the General Assembly. She also works with local government, schools, and the community concentrating on public health, safe and responsible consumption, and education for minors.
Karin came to WSDI with twenty-six years of experience with Midwest distributors of wine, spirits and beer. Her career in the beverage alcohol industry began in 1984 after attending Wayne State University in Detroit where she also played NCAA Division I volleyball.
WSDI’s social responsibility commitment to preventing underage sales and drinking is taken very seriously. As a means to educate our youth and their caregivers, Karin has participated in school backpack give away programs, career fairs, the Chicago Elite Basketball program, and drinking prevention programs within multiple school districts. Karin also instituted a program where she and members of her staff work directly with retail stores and local Aldermen to further advance the safety of minors.
Karin is active in various organizations including being a trustee of the Liquor & Wine Sales Representative, Warehouseman, Clerical, Distillery, Rectifying, Tire, Plastic & Allied Workers Union Local 3 Health & Welfare Plan, a member of the Advisory Council of the national trade association WSWA, the Society for Human Resource Management, the National Association of Credit Management, and the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators.
Additionally, Karin has also served as a member of the 100 Club of Chicago's Board of Directors since 2011. The 100 Club of Chicago provides for the dependents of our fallen first responders.
Jeremy Kruidenier became the Vice Executive Director for Wine and Spirits Distributors of Illinois in August, 2015. He was appointed General Counsel in January, 2019. He is a licensed attorney and registered lobbyist that advocates for the regulatory and legislative issues of WSDI members in front the Illinois Liquor Control Commission, the Illinois General Assembly, and various units of local government. He came to WSDI after working as a government relations consultant, serving clients from highly regulated industries.
Jeremy, a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, served in several positions during the administration of Governor Pat Quinn. In those positions, he was responsible for managing staff and overseeing hundreds of pieces of legislation, while also advising the Governor as a member of his senior staff. Jeremy also graduated from the University of Illinois where he was a member of the varsity Track and Field team.
Jeremy is admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois, the United States District Court - Northern District of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is the Chair of the Trade and Professional Associations Committee at the Chicago Bar Association. Additionally, he is active in the community, serving in various leadership positions on the Alzheimer’s Association of Illinois Junior Board, and is a member of the Equality Illinois PAC Board, the 100 Club of Chicago, and the Varsity “I” Association. Jeremy lives in Oak Park with his wife and children.
